Now that 2018 is underway, most people are back at school and putting some of their new year’s resolutions on hold as they try to balance all of their responsibilities. If you think you are too preoccupied to worry about your resolutions, here are four steps you can take to get you back on track to accomplish your goals.
1. Prioritize your resolutions
Do not overwhelm yourself with tons of huge goals you want to achieve throughout the year. Not only will this swamp you, but you could be left feeling like a failure at the end of the year if you did not accomplish everything on your list. Decide which goals are the most important to you and which goals are not as significant. By doing this, you can focus your attention on the important goals throughout the year and work on the smaller resolutions in your spare time.
2. Incorporate your goals into your daily life by putting them in your planner or phone
If one of your goals is to work out more, carve out time to go to the gym every week and write it in your planner or set an alarm in your phone to remind you. If your goal is to earn better grades in your classes, set aside time to go to the library or a study group regularly. Easing yourself into a routine early in the year will help you accomplish your goals sooner and free up time for you to focus on your smaller resolutions.
3. Make an inspiration board
Creating a collage as a visual reminder of where you would like to see yourself by the end of this year is a great tool to help you stay focused on reaching your goals. Use images and words that inspire you to get up and get moving. Apps such as Tumblr and We Heart It are great resources for photographs and quotes to help you get motivated for 2018. An inspiration board can also serve as cute DIY decor for your dorm or apartment.
4. Treat yourself
Once you’ve accomplished your resolutions, reward yourself. You’ve come a long way from where you started, so celebrate it by treating yourself to a mani-pedi or buying a new pair of shoes. Afterwards, get back to creating new resolutions. There’s always room for you to improve your life, so don’t stop once you check off everything on your list for this year!
